SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE: “Assurance of Blessings-Regardless!” Philippians 1:19-21
SUNDAY EVENING MESSAGE: Tonight at 6:00 p.m. The Pastor will bring a sermon/presentation on his and Earl Ann's recent trip to the Library of Congress in his search for the 5 original lecture manuscripts of Dr. Peter Marshall, former Pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C. and Chaplain of the United States Senate. The lectures involved Peter Marshall's delivery of the "Dr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Zimmerman Lectures on Effective Preaching" at Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary, May 10-12, 1944 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. We are grateful to have Edith Marshall Roberts, daughter-in-law of Peter Marshall, and her husband, John, with us tonight for the presentation, as well.
TIME CHANGE: This Sunday’s time change is not the favorite for some, you lose that extra hour of sleep. That also means an extra hour of sunlight in the evening. Saturday evening call to remind class and departments member that Sunday is time change and they will need to change the time forward one hour. For those daring, a Sunday morning call with get their attention. Remember to plan for those who arrive late thinking they have arrived early for Sunday School.
CONFIRM THAT LEADERSHIP TEAM WILL BE IN PLACE: Graham I.S.D. Spring Break begins Friday March 7. Let’s make sure all teachers and leaders will be present March 16 to carry out their responsibilities or that someone has been enlisted to do their tasks. It is better to take care of things like this early and not have hurry around Sunday morning covering all the bases. If our focus is on covering the bases we can miss something important. We want to stay focused on the the needs of those we teach.
LITERATURE ORDER: Literature orders are due Sunday, March 9, for the June, July, August Sunday School lessons. Please double check to make sure orders have been turned in. If you lose the form call the church office and we can take the request over the phone.
SEVEN WEEKS UNTIL EASTER: It is just seven weeks until Easter and it is not to early for Sunday School classes and departments to make plans for this very important Sunday. This week you will want to make sure your have class/department Care-Group leaders in place. These are the class/department members responsible for making sure members are contacted when absent and ministry needs are met. Some classes/departments may have other titles for those who carryout these responsibilities. As we move closer to Easter let’s make sure that everyone is the contacted and is ministry responsibility of someone. Week be week additional helps will be provided.
PLANNING FOR THE SUMMER CALENDAR: Families are now planning their summer calendar and budget. Here are some of the dates for activities families will want to plan to be a part of.
- June 9-13 Vacation Bible School
- June 23-27 Youth Camp Falls Creek: The cost for Falls Creek is $100.00 per student. A family package is available. The cost for 2 students from the same family is $150.00 and 3 from the same family is $175.00.
- July 11-18 Summer Mission Trip to Loveland, Colorado. The cost for the mission trip is pending. A planning time with the Colorado Church Planting Team and Strategists will provide more detailed information. This meeting will happen March 19-21.
- July 22-26 Girls in Action Camp The total cost of this camp is $210.00 with student responsible for $105.00.
INTEREST IN LEARNING HANDBELLS: If you have a basic knowledge of music reading and would like to become a part of our Handbell ministry, the “Golden Bells” needs you. If you are a veteran ringer or just want to learn, please contact Ruth Heffington at 549-3812.
URGENT NEED: For various reasons, we find ourselves in critical need of some new volunteers to fill our slots on our media team. These volunteers are responsible to get our services on the air, on the internet, and into the homes and hearts of our people. Please consider helping out in this much-needed ministry of our church. This is a medium for many in our great city who cannot attend church. Please give prayerful consideration to this opportunity. Contact Jerry Blake at the church office
YOUTH COMMITTEE NEEDS YOU HELP: From some of our Junior High and High School the Family Life Center is the place for them to come and wait for Student activities to begin. The gym is open for small number of students from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you are able to help will all or part of this time please contact Freddie Forbus or the church office. It is very important that we maintain this ministry to our students.
HABITAT HOUSE MARCH 29: The First Family has been blessed to be a part of every Habitat for Humanity house built in our community. This is a great opportunity for members of different ages to come together and work that day. Sunday School leaders and teachers will want to encourage those they teach to make plans to be on the Habitat team. Volunteers are needed to help with the construction for the day, the morning or afternoon. Volunteers are needed to prepared food items for lunch and breaks. We are the lead team this year. Saturday morning when you arrive there is only a slab foundation. When we leave for the day the walls will be in place and trusses at each end.
NEW WEEKDAY BIBLE STUDY: A new week day study is schedule to begin Thursday, March 13, 11:00 a.m. until noon for seven weeks. The study is “He Speaks To Me” by Priscilla Shirer. This study is based on the life of Samuel, who first heard God's voice while still a small boy. Packed with practical examples from Priscilla's own life, “He Speaks to Me” delves directly into the need to develop a richer prayer life and a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. You'll also learn how to comfortably share your experience of God with others. God has a message for you! Do you want to hear from Him in practical ways?
2014 WEEK OF PRAYER FOR NORTH AMERICAN MISSIONS: The Sunday gifts to the North America Mission/Annie Armstrong Offering for Home Missions had a good start. First Family, you have given $415.00 toward the offering goal of $5,000.00. Sunday School leaders will want to remind class and department members that they have the opportunity to be involved in missions by giving to this offering emphasis. Some are called to be on the field so that God's word is shared with others. We are called to pray for and financially support those serving in the mission field. Offering envelopes are available in the card holder on the back of each pew.
WOMEN'S RETREAT MARCH 28-29 CAMP CHAPARRAL: The theme for the retreat is “Surrender.”
‘Surrender’… That is often a word that as Christians can be a difficult for us. At this year’s retreat we will look at how when we live a life fully surrendered to God and following His lead, we don’t know where He will send us, we must wait for His timing, and we must trust God’s purpose. Our guest speaker this year will be Carolyn Porterfield, Multicultural Consultant at the WMU of Texas office. Carolyn is excited about coming and sharing what God has laid on her heart. We hope that you will make plans to join us as together we look into God’s Word and ‘Surrender’ to Him!! Here are a some details to note regarding the weekend:
