One of the benefits of the All In Challenge is that for seven days, not only have we been praying, but we have been praying together. As we move toward the end of summer and into fall, we are moving forward together in prayer.
WE HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR...
Our Nation, Graham, first responders, compassion, mercy, church’s ministries, spiritual awakening in our hearts, the families of FBC, and the preaching of the Gospel. We have been engaging in daily prayer for the past several months. It is my prayer that, over these past several months, your prayer life has been flourishing and that you have been experiencing a deep connection with God.
One way to prepare yourself for prayer is through confession of sin, knowing that there is forgiveness of sins. We confess our sins and receive forgiveness because Christ atoned for our sins. Confession helps the believer to walk in a way that says, “I am all in for Christ.”
Galatians 5:16
“I say, then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh.”
Today,
- Ask the Lord for forgiveness of sin.
- Ask the Lord to fill you with the Holy Spirit.
- Ask the Lord for power to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh.
PRAYING FOR A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING
This week is a special week in the life of our country. We are not only celebrating our freedom, but also celebrating 250 years of being a nation under God. Our prayer for America is spiritual revival.
Like most of you, I love 2 Chronicles 7:14.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
We understand this verse was an Old Testament promise to Israel, but this verse still speaks today to the New Testament church.
As God’s people, we know that all Scripture is God-breathed and used for teaching. Every Christian can learn from this passage. As God’s people, we are to humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from evil.
Sounds easy. Notice the call on the people of God is no different than the call on the church. Today, the church is called to live with humility, to have a hunger for God (prayer and worship), and to live out holiness.
As Christians, we are to walk humbly before our God. Every Christian should have an understanding that we contribute nothing toward grace. Therefore, He alone deserves all the glory and honor for our salvation in Christ. What America needs today is grace.
As Christians, we are to have a hunger for God. In our All In Challenge, you have been challenged to pray seven days a week. What is truly incredible is not that we are praying, but that God hears our prayers. He hears our prayers for revival and our desire to see God do something that only He can do. He hears our prayers of repentance and confession. God will not bless America unless we turn from our wicked ways.
We hunger for God through worship. Worship is not something we simply check off our to-do list. Worship is entering the presence of God and experiencing His presence. It is expressing love to God for who He is and for what He has done. Worship is an encounter with God.
Lastly, we are called to live out holiness. Repentance leads to a heart change. A heart change leads to life change. Holiness comes by repentance. Repentance is turning away from sin and turning toward God.
Although 2 Chronicles was not written to America, that does not mean that America cannot profit from Christians showing humility, seeking God, and pursuing holiness. As you pray this week in light of 2 Chronicles 7:14, pray: God, we humble ourselves before You. We confess our sinful ways before You. We pray for the power to turn toward You and You alone. We pray that we would seek Your face today.
This week, pray:
- God, be gracious and merciful to America.
- God, awaken your church to experience the next Great Awakening.
- God, hear our prayers, forgive our sins, and heal our land.
This Sunday, July 5, we will not have Sunday School. Instead, we will all be in the gym celebrating with a church-wide breakfast during the Sunday School hour. Bring something to share, and let’s have a great time of fellowship and food. We will still have worship at the regular time, 11 AM.
See you Sunday!
